About Me

Hi, I'm Kaitlyn, Hands-On Horsemanship's head trainer. I work with owners who want thoughtful, welfare-focused training grounded in both practical horsemanship and learning theory.

Alongside years of experience training horses in disciplines ranging from reining to dressage to endurance riding, I am on the path to becoming a certified equine behaviorist, currently holding a bachelor's degree in Equine Science and pursuing a master's in Equine Behavior and Welfare.

I train horses using clear pressure-and-release, thoughtfully-timed reinforcement, and careful attention to emotional regulation. Training goals are planned ahead of each session, but I adjust my process based on how the horse responds that day rather than forcing a fixed agenda.

My work is grounded in learning theory and equitation science, and I aim to follow established principles of ethical, effective training while remaining practical in real-world settings. I aim to always be gentle and clear in my handling.

I work across English and Western disciplines and draw from natural horsemanship as well as classical training principles, including balance, relaxation, and progressive development under saddle. Rather than relying on tools to create results, I focus on developing communication, confidence, and consistency that carry over beyond the training period.

My Approach

Background & Experience

My work with horses is supported by both hands-on experience and formal education. I hold a bachelor's degree in Equine Science and I am currently completing a master's degree in Equine Behavior & Welfare.

Alongside my academic background, I have experience starting young horses, working with off-the-track-Thoroughbreds, rescues, and mustangs in various stages of training. I have trained horses across English and Western disciplines and place a strong emphasis on calm handling, progressive development, and long-term soundness— both physical and emotional.

I prioritize learning and reflection as a part of my work, staying up to date on current research in equitation science and equine behavior so I can prioritize the horse's welfare. Some of my favorite training principles are included below. Feel free to check them out to learn a little more about me and the way I train!
